Because Fridays are for laziness, we use each one as an opportunity to point you to some links you may have missed. Here’s what caught our attention this week:

  • My Experiment with Homemade White Castle Slyders [Epicurious Blogs]
Writing an article about trying to recreate the White Castle experience at home is a guaranteed way to get your food blog on the map. Particularly if your secret ingredient is beef flavored baby food.
  • Go Tropical with Spicy Shrimp Cocktail [YumSugar]
We love old-school shrimp cocktail with horseradish and ketchup, but this recipe, featuring mango, avocado, and spicy skewered shrimp may just become one of our new favorites.
  • The 2009 Zagat Fast Food Survey [Zagat]
The results (yawn) are in (sigh), and In ‘n’ Out wins for best fast food burger. Surprised?
  • Banana Cake with Cream Cheese Frosting [Evil Shenanigans]
When saddled with overripe bananas, bread isn’t your only option. Try this cake, which is just as delicious but features 100% more cream cheese frosting.
  • Make an Altoid Mini Toolbox for Dad [Alpha Mom]
We love the idea of presenting dad with a gift card to Home Depot or Loews, in one of these tiny “toolboxes” made from some basic hardware and an Altoid tin.
  • Homemade Ginger Ale [The Amateur Gourmet]
Who knew it was this simple? This refreshing homemade drink is definitely on our to-try list for the weekend.
  • Food Science: Why Bagels are Boiled [The Kitchn]
As counterintuitive as it seems to toss raw bread dough into boiling water, there is definitely good reason for it.
  • Sweet and Sour Chicken [Brown Eyed Baker]
Obsessively trying to recreate bad Chinese takeout is a bit of a hobby of ours, and this recipe for Sweet and Sour Chicken seems spot-on. Now, if only someone could help us figure out dumplings.
  • Homemade Peanut Butter [Kiss My Spatula]
KMS swears that once you try this homemade version, you’ll never go back to store-bought again.
